04 / POSITION ACROSS THE PLANT

Long-range industrial laser distance sensors

Keep distant movement in view.

Specify phase-shift laser distance measurement for stacker cranes, material handling and industrial positioning. Review target return, update rate and PLC integration across the complete travel path.

LASER CLASS / INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT

Confirm the class and test scope of the ordered variant.

Laser label and installation

Request the actual label, classification basis and instructions for this LDS-LNG configuration. Include reflective targets, external optics, covers and setup/service access in the machine review.

Environmental and market records

Match declared ingress/temperature limits and EMC, shock or vibration evidence to the complete assembly and test conditions. Identify the destination and applicable declaration/report scope.

Class, ratings, certificates and document availability require configuration-specific confirmation. A measurement output is not a certified personnel-protection function.

PHASE DISTANCE / COMPLETE TRAVEL PATH

Qualify the near position and the far return.

Natural versus reflector

Record target dimensions, color, angle and surface. Reflector operation can change both maximum and minimum distance; it is not simply an extension of natural-target mode.

Accuracy versus update time

Ask for the confidence level and measuring characteristic, plus latency during a moving-target step. Output increments, averaging and absolute accuracy are separate.

Dust, heat and sunlight

Define contamination, condensation, ambient light and radiant heat. Select a purge/cooling housing against the head’s environmental limits and verify the complete installation.

SELECTION REVIEW / LDS-LNG

Set the acceptance conditions with the configuration.

Requested distance / field

0.05–50 m natural target · up to 150 m reflector requests

Performance review

±1 mm accuracy target, conditions to confirm

Integration choices

4–20 mA · RS485 · industrial network variants

These are selection envelopes. Maximum field, rate, resolution and interface functions require confirmation for the same ordered configuration.

01

Define the minimum and maximum distance, target size and reflectivity, ambient light, dust and motion. Reflector operation can have a model-specific minimum distance and saturation limits.

02

Request accuracy with its confidence level, measuring characteristic and update rate. A 0.1 mm output increment does not mean 0.1 mm accuracy; performance must be established for the ordered configuration.

03

Review 4–20 mA, RS485, SSI, CANopen, EtherCAT or PROFINET by variant. Hot-zone installations need a thermal assessment; process measurement is not a certified collision-prevention safety function.

Application focus: Stacker cranes · overhead cranes · industrial distance

Existing-family references: Dimetix D-Series DPE / DAE / DEN · SICK DT50 / DME / DL100 · Banner LT7. Send the full suffix, drawing and integration requirements for assessment.

LDS-LNG / ENGINEERING HANDOFF

Request the files your design review needs.

Ask for the proposed model’s current revision. File availability, supported functions and calibration scope are confirmed during configuration review.

M12 pin count is only the first check.

Mechanical fit

Housing dimensions, optical-axis height, mounting holes, connector clearance and cable bend space.

Electrical assignment

Connector coding, supply and ground, analog reference, output polarity, load and shield termination. Request the drawing for both complete part numbers.

PLC / acquisition

Scaling, register or process-data map, units, invalid-data flags, trigger behavior, update period and the correct IODD / ESI / GSDML / EDS file where supported.

LDS-LNG / BEFORE THE DRAWING REVIEW

Resolve the questions that change the configuration.

Is the reflector range also available on a natural target?

Not necessarily. Natural and reflective targets have separate range conditions. A reflector may also have a minimum usable distance or saturation limit.

Does a 0.1 mm output increment imply 0.1 mm accuracy?

No. Output resolution does not establish absolute accuracy. Ask for measuring characteristic, confidence level, update rate and target conditions for the selected model.

Can this be used as a safety collision-prevention sensor?

A process-distance configuration is not a certified safety function. Any protective use requires its own qualified system and safety assessment.
